Residential Self Priming Pumps
A self-priming pump is a specific type of liquid pump designed to have the required amount of liquid inside the pump body or the cavity required to start the process. Where pumps are used for a variety of purposes yet intermittent operations, this self-priming water pump offers the potential for increased operating efficiencies. The centrifugal pumps which have the capability to pump the liquids with entrained gas and liquids that are capable to vent the suction line of air are considered as the self-priming pumps. The pump functions by fluid recirculating with the pump’s head which in turn creates a vacuum.  The pumps are best suitable to prime themselves by drawing water so that it doesn’t need an external source of water to start. The self-prime regenerative pumps can be used to pump water from a well, flooded basement, or pump water to the pool and they are also used in industrial settings for pumping water, chemicals or sewage. The pumps can be electric or manual and are made of plastic, aluminium, brass, or stainless steel. The size of the prime pumps generally ranges between 6 and 10 inches in diameter and are available in varied sizes and lengths.
What are Self Priming Pumps?
The self-priming pump is fundamentally designed to allow the pump to re-prime itself predominantly under different lift conditions. The pump helps in clearing the passages of air if it turns air bound and resumes delivery of the pumping without requiring outside attention. The self-priming water pump will lift the liquid from a level below the pump and is capable of evacuating air from the suction line without the help of an external device. The most common centrifugal self-primers have an in-built reservoir in the pump casing, giving it a boxy appearance. Cromptons offers a variety of self-priming pumps to suit the needs according to various applications. It can be used for several reasons including sewage, flood control, and construction dewatering.
How do Self Priming Pumps work?
The self-priming types of pumps are designed to operate automatically and pumps of this nature attribute close tolerance of working parts which help in trapping the fluids in the body of the pump while preventing them from returning the discharge side of the pump to the suction side when the pump is not functioning. In this type of priming pump, the constant pressure of fluid in the pump’s body allows the pump to handle everything efficiently, which is called “air pockets.” Air pockets are basically an accumulation of air bubbles in the working of the pump’s mechanism which damage the functioning of the pump.
The self-priming mini-pumps have two phases of operations, the pumping mode, and the priming mode. In the priming mode, the priming pump acts as a liquid-ring pump and the rotator impeller generates a vacuum at the impeller’s eye which helps in drawing air to the pump. At the same time, it creates a cylindrical liquid on the inner side of the pump’s casing. This in turn helps to form a gas-tight seal, preventing air to return the discharge point to the suction point. This process continues till the liquid replaces the air in the suction pipe and at this moment, the pumping mode starts while discharging the liquid.
Types of Self-Priming Pumps
Self-priming pumps are used to evacuate the air before moving liquids. At Crompton, we offer you a variety of mini water pumps to suit your needs according to the applications which include:
Heavy Duty Self Priming Pumps:  the unique and innovative self-priming pump from Crompton is highly efficient and reliable ensuring smooth and hassle-free operation. These heavy-duty pumps are associated with many benefits and specifications. An ordinary centrifugal pump is not capable of dealing with the air pump’s intake since the impeller is not able to move air due to low-speed rotation.
Self-Priming Regenerative Aquagold Pump: Crompton’s regenerative aqua gold water pump is an ideal solution for all your requirements so that you can enjoy a regular water supply all year round with the high-performance pump. These pumps mix with the air for creating a fluid that has pumping properties similar to that of water. Leaving the water back the air is then removed by the pump and then the water is moved through the pump.
Self-Priming Mini Pumps: The mini pumps by Crompton offer a wide range of features and are well-designed, long-lasting, and state-of-the-art to make sure quality service. These pumps use a water-air mixture to reach a quality state of a fully primed pump. When the impeller rotates inside the casing it creates a low-pressure zone at the centre.  The water from this pump is delivered like other water pumps working on the centrifugal pumps.
Features of Self Priming Pumps
The range of Crompton’s self-priming pumps comes with a variety of features and specifications and you can pick a product based on your choice and needs. Enjoy a regular supply of water throughout the year with the high-performance Crompton’s self-priming pump. Let us look at the features and specifications of the self-priming pump:

- The brass impeller makes the pump more durable and works efficiently at a much higher level with high-grade electrical stamping.
- These pumps can self-prime at a depth of 8 metres at the mean sea level, considering the benefits you get the pumps price is extremely reasonable within a range of INR 4,500-5000
- The KW/hp determines the power of the priming pumps, the Crompton’s pump gives you the power of approximately 0.1 to 10. These mini pumps are single-phase pumps and are used in small appliances.
- The flow of the water is decided by the pipe’s size, the higher the pump size the greater the flow but the lower the pressure.
- A multistage pump is when there is more than one impeller. The higher the head range the greater the distance to the discharge point and the range of the distance determines the maximum height to which the water can be pumped.
