FAQs on Steam iron

How do I use a steam iron?

Using a steam iron effectively involves a few simple steps.

  1. Fill the water tank with clean water to the recommended level.
  2. Plug in the iron and select the appropriate temperature setting based on the fabric you're ironing.
  3. Once the iron has heated up, glide it smoothly over the wrinkled areas of the fabric, pressing the steam button as needed to release steam. For stubborn wrinkles, you may need to apply more steam or increase the temperature setting.
  4. Hang or fold the ironed garment once it's smooth and wrinkle-free.

How do I clean a steam iron plate?

Mineral deposits and residues from starch or fabric softeners can build up on the soleplate of a steam iron, over time. To clean the soleplate, unplug the iron and allow it to cool completely. Wipe the plates with a soft cloth damped with a vinegar and water solution. Then, wipe the plate with a dry cloth. You may also use a baking soda and water paste for stubborn stains.

Can I use a steam iron as a dry Iron?

You may use your steam iron as a dry iron if it has a dry iron setting.

How many types of irons are there?

Broadly, a clothes iron can be of two types: dry iron or steam iron. Dry iron uses a hot plate and pressure to smooth out the fabric while steam iron uses a hot plate, pressure and steam.

Which is better: steam iron or dry iron?

Steam iron and dry iron both efficiently remove wrinkles from the fabric. The choice between the two depends on your ironing needs.

How Does Steam Iron Work

Steam irons, like dry irons, help remove wrinkles from the fabric with a heated plate and pressure. The steam iron brings an additional component, i.e., steam. Here’s the working mechanism of a steam iron:

  • The Water Tank: A steam iron has a compartment to hold water. This water is heated to produce steam.
  • Heating Element: A heating element inside the iron heats up when you turn on the iron. The heating element heats the water in the reservoir.
  • Steam Generation: As the temperature of the heating element increases, water in the tank is converted into steam.
  • Soleplate: The soleplate, which is the flat surface of the iron, comprises small holes through which the steam is released. The soleplate distributes heat and steam evenly across the fabric.
  • Ironing:  When ironing, the combination of heat, pressure and moisture helps to relax the fibres in the fabric and smooth out the wrinkles.

  • Scratch-Resistant Ceramic Coating

The soleplate of our steam iron is equipped with a scratch-resistant ceramic coating to ensure smooth gliding over various fabric types while also protecting the soleplate from scratches and abrasions.

  • Self-Clean Function

The Fabri Autotech variant of the steam press helps maintain optimal performance by removing inner mineral deposits that may accumulate over time.

  • Swivel Cord

When ironing, the swivel feature prevents the power cord from entangling. This way, you can have a hassle-free ironing session.

  • Multiple Fabric Settings

You can customise your Steam iron’s setting depending on the fabric type. Typically, delicate fabrics like silk require low heat while fabrics like cotton or linen require ironing at relatively high heat.

  • 2-Year Warranty

Our Steam irons are backed by a 2-year warranty which will cover you in the case of manufacturing defects or malfunctions.

Advantages of Steam iron

Whether you’re looking to buy a new iron or simply wish to upgrade your traditional iron, consider steam iron. Here are the reasons why:

  • Heat + Moisture for Enhanced Ironing

The combination of heat and moisture can effectively remove wrinkles from fabrics. The steam penetrates the fabric and makes the fibres pliable and easier to smoothen.

  • Gentle Ironing

The steam from the steam iron helps relax the fibres in the fabric. This way, gentle fabrics like silk need not come in direct contact with the high-temperature soleplates.

  • Vertical Steaming Option

Typically, ironing requires a flat board below the fabric for convenience and safety. However, steam irons can be held vertically to iron out delicate fabric on hangers, curtains, etc.

  • Easy to Use

The steam iron is relatively easy to use. Simply fill the tank with water, turn the iron on, select the desired fabric setting and iron away.
