Whether you’re buying a new refrigerator, heater or geyser, we’ve all seen a little sticker on them with some star ratings. This label is highly important and enables us with ample knowledge about the product. Not just the product, we become aware of the manufacturing process of a company and its commitment to energy efficiency. This is the Bureau of Energy Efficiency star label, and we must make it a point to buy BEE star-rated electrical appliances with this sticker. If you see this star label on a product, you know that it has been tested and vetted. Purchasing products with the energy star label promotes better manufacturing practices, cognizance amongst consumers and adherence to protocols and standards. A BEE Star Label Mark is an assurance of a tested product. Let’s learn more about this label.

What is a BEE Star Label?

BEE, or the bureau of energy efficiency, issues a BEE Star Label. We have often noticed certain stickers on our appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, ceiling fans and geysers. These stickers are important and often give us insight into the energy efficiency of the product. Five stars on a label indicate high energy efficiency, while a one-star rating indicates low energy efficiency. it’s important to purchase an appliance with a high rating to save money on electricity bills and reduce our carbon footprint. The most energy-efficient household appliances are BLDC fans. The BEE collects the relevant information from the manufacturers themselves. A manufacturer sends his product to NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) for testing, and the results are then sent to BEE. This is how we get the rating. While this rating is important, it tells us quite a bit about the product and its energy consumption. We must always understand the meaning of an energy star label to be conscious about the energy we are consuming.

How to read a BEE Star Label?

A BEE Star Label is important because of the star label and because it tells us of amazing details that we were unaware of. Let’s go over a BEE Star Label.

1. One of the first things we read on a BEE Star Label is ‘more stars, more saving’. Therefore if you want reduced electricity consumption, then you should go for an appliance with a higher rating.

2. The second thing on the label is the electricity consumption or efficiency. This is important because we get to know how much energy our appliances consume.

3. The next in line is the Label period. In short, a label period refers to the time period a particular electricity consumption unit will stay as standard. You may have a five-star rating on the star label on your appliance today; however, the rating parameters may change after the labelling period. This is because certain standards are constantly changing and are revised accordingly.

4. The next on the label is the brand and model, along with the type of appliance and year of manufacturing.

5. Lastly, you may see certain technical parameters with respect to the appliance and a unique code. The label concluded with certain applicable conditions as well.

What does the label period mean and why is it important?

We have all seen a Bureau of Energy Efficiency Star Label, which is an important indication of the energy consumption of an appliance. However, one of the important points we notice on a star label is the Label Period. A label period is an important point. We may have bought an appliance which is five stars today, but the standard for ideal consumption may drop after the labelling period is over, in which case our appliance can become a three-star as well. For instance, you buy a geyser with a five-star rating and the labelling period shows the date of 25th June 2024. This means that the five-star rating is applicable only till 25th June 2024. After the date, certain revisions in the consumption standards may change, making our geyser perhaps a three-star appliance. Therefore, be careful when purchasing an appliance and go for one that is newly labelled. While reading a BEE label can be confusing at first, it can become quite easy once you get the hang of it.

BEE Certificate

A BEE certificate is a highly important certificate as it tells us quite a bit about the appliance we are using. A BEE certificate is issued by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency or the BEE. The purpose of a BEE certificate is to make a consumer aware of his energy consumption and the products they are investing in. A BEE certificate urges consumers to purchase energy-saving appliances, which further help in reducing our electricity bills. The stars on the label are based on certain protocols issued by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
