Indian mixer recipes to savour on

Nothing really beats the impeccable taste of spices and flavours of an Indian dish. While these lip-smacking dishes may seem difficult and complicated to make at home, the reality is that they can be made easily if you have the right kitchen appliances to help you in the process. A reliable mixer grinder is one of the most essential kitchen equipment in almost every Indian household. We are all set to share some delicious mixer recipes that can be whipped up in no time. We have also previously covered how a mixer grinder can be used for Indian cooking. However, we are sharing some of our favourite Indian recipes with you this time. 1. Tomato soup:

This tomato soup recipe is one of the easiest and quickest to make on a gloomy evening when you want something warm. 

Ingredients:

1. 2 cups roughly chopped tomatoes

2. ¼ cup yellow moong dal (washed & drained)

3. 1 tbsp butter

4. ¼ cup finely chopped onions

5. 1 tsp sugar

6. Salt and black pepper to taste

Process:

1. In a pressure cooker, put 2 cups roughly chopped tomatoes

2. Add ¼ cup yellow moong dal (washed & drained)

3. Add 1 ½ cup of water

4. Mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles

5. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid

6. Let the mixture cool down and blend it well in a mixer grinder

7. In a deep pan, heat the butter and add the chopped onions. 

8. Saute on medium heat for a minute and add the tomato dal mixture. 

9. Add ½ cup water and add sugar if you like it to be a little sweet. 

10. Add salt as per taste, mix well and cook on medium heat for 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. 

11. Turn off the flame and add some ground black pepper.

12. Serve hot. 

You can also give a twist to this recipe and add some basil to make a soothing tomato basil soup

 

2. Smoothies

When it comes to a wholesome and healthy breakfast, nothing really does the job better than a good smoothie. We have previously shared smoothie recipes, but here’s an additional one that is easy to make and yummy to taste. 

Ingredients:

1. ¼ rolled oats

2. ½ cup chopped apple

3. ¼ almond milk

4. ½ cup curd

5. ¼ tsp cinnamon powder

6. 1 tsp maple syrup or honey

7. Ice cubes

Process:

1. Add the oats, chopped apple, almond milk, curd, cinnamon powder and honey/maple syrup in a mixer grinder. 

2. Blend till the mixture is smooth. 

3. Add ice cubes to chill your smoothie. 

4. Pour the smoothie into a mason jar and relish your healthy smoothie. 

 

3. Green chutney:

Green chutney is almost like an essential in Indian households. It can be used as a dip with bhajiyas and other snacks, or it is also useful to make some quick and easy homemade chutney sandwiches. This green chutney recipe is super easy and can be made within minutes. 

Ingredients:

1. 2 cups chopped mint leaves

2. 1 cup chopped coriander

3. 1 tbsp lemon juice

4. 1 tbsp roughly chopped green chillies

5. 1 tbsp roughly chopped ginger

6. Salt to taste

Process:

1. Take one fresh bunch of mint leaves. 

2. Pick the leaves from the stems and discard the stems. 

3. Wash the leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt. 

4. Roughly chop the leaves to make them easy to blend. We will need about 2 cups of mint leaves, so keep them aside. 

5. Pick a fresh bunch of coriander leaves and follow the same instructions. 

6. Add all the ingredients to the mixer grinder and blend till smooth. 

7. You can add water to reach the desired consistency. 

 

3. Cold Cocoa Milk Shake:

Cocoa milk shake is one of our favourite recipes on a hot summer day. This chilled cocoa milk shake recipe will not only satiate your sugar cravings but also keep you coming back to it, owing to its easy prep.  

Ingredients:

1. 2 ½ tbsp cocoa powder

2. 2 cups chilled full-fat milk

3. ¼ cup sugar

4. Ice cubes

5. 2 tbsp grated chocolate or choco-chips for garnish

Process:

1. Add the cocoa powder to a mixer grinder. Make sure you use good quality cocoa powder to make the milkshake for a rich and delicious taste. 

2. Add chilled full-fat milk. To make the milkshake denser, add vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream along with the milk. 

3. Add sugar, depending on how sweet you want your drink.

4. Add ice. 

5. Blend in the ingredients. 

 

4. Vegetable gravy

An Indian meal is incomplete without a good vegetable gravy. This easy Vegetable Makhanwala recipe is the perfect addition to a complete Indian meal. 

Ingredients:

1. ¼ cup diagonally cut and blanched french beans

2. ¼ cup blanched cauliflower florets

3. ½ cup diagonally cut and blanched carrots

4. ¼ cup boiled green peas

5. ¼ cup sliced and blanched capsicum

6. ½ cup chopped tomatoes

7. 6 cashew nuts

8. 1 tsp roughly chopped ginger

9.1 tbsp chopped garlic

10. 1 ½ tbsp butter

11. ½ tsp caraway seeds

12. 1 bayleaf

13. 1 tsp chilli powder

14. ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder

15. ½ tsp garam masala

16. ¼ tsp turmeric powder

17. ½ tsp coriander powder

18. 1 ½ tsp sugar

19. 2 tbsp fresh cream

20. Salt to taste

 

Process: 

1. Heat the butter in a non-stick kadhai, add the caraway seeds and bayleaf. Saute the mixture on a medium flame for 30 seconds. 

2. Add the tomatoes, cashews, ginger and garlic in the mixer jar and blend till smooth. 

3. Add the tomato mixture to the kadhai, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. 

4. Add the chilli powder, kashmiri red chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, sugar, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring. 

5. Add the fresh cream and the mixed vegetables, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally. 

6. Serve hot. 

 

5. Idli and Dosa batter

If you are someone who loves making their idli dosa batter at home, then this recipe is perfect for you. Making the dosa batter at home will ensure you have crisp and delicious dosas made right from scratch. This idli batter recipe is easy to make and not really a strenuous task. 

Ingredients:

1. ½ cup Urad dal

2. 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds

3. 2 cups parboiled rice

4. 3 tbsp jada poha

5. Salt to taste

 

Process:

1. To make the perfect dosa batter recipe, combine the urad dal, fenugreek seeds and enough water in a deep bowl and mix well. Cover with a lid and keep aside to soak for 4 hours. 

2. Combine the parboiled rice and jada poha with enough water in a deep bowl and mix well. Cover with a lid and keep aside to soak for 4 hours. 

3. Wash and drain the urad dal and fenugreek seeds and blend in a mixer grinder to a smooth paste using approximately 1 cup of water. Transfer the mixture in a deep bowl and keep aside. 

4. Wash and drain the parboiled rice and jada poha and blend in a mixer to a slightly coarse paste using approximately 1 ½ cups of water. Add this mixture to the urad dal-fenugreek mixture, add the salt and mix well. 

5. Cover it with a lid and keep aside to ferment in a warm place for 12 hours.

6. After fermentation, mix the idli batter well once again and it’s all ready to use.
