How to Clean Air Coolers at Home?

  • 26 March

Has your air cooler started to look old and sullied? It’s time you clean your air cooler if it has grown a grime-covered exterior, has dusty blades or is making noises. This is because the appliance collects dirt and debris over time, causing its white/cream-coloured casing to become stained. The blades of the cooler, which are designed to circulate air, get clogged with dirt and other particles which reduces its effectiveness.

Cleaning an air cooler regularly will help keep you cool and healthy all year round, so you should do your part to keep it maintained. In this blog, we will tell you instructions on how to clean your air cooler at home:

Steps to Clean an Air Cooler

Wondering how you can begin cleaning your air cooler device? Follow these steps to execute the cleaning of your air cooler at home with ease.

1. Clean the Water Tank

You can start by unplugging the air cooler and emptying the water tank completely. After this, with mild soap and warm water, wash the inside of the tank thoroughly. Make sure to soft scrub any stubborn buildup or stains with a soft brush or sponge.

2. Sterilise the Honeycomb Pads

First, remove the honeycomb pads from the unit and wash the honeycomb pads thoroughly with a soft brush or sponge. Once you’ve cleaned the honeycomb pads, you can sterilise them by soaking them in a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 4 parts water for 10-15 minutes. This will help to kill any bacteria, mould or any harmful substances present.

3. Clean the exterior

Using a soft cloth and mild soap,  wipe down the exterior body of the air cooler to remove any dust or grime. You can use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub stains away. Once you’ve finished rinsing the body, allow it to air dry.

4. Dry out every part

Once you are done washing the units, make sure to dry every part of it in a well-ventilated area before plugging the air cooler back in. Also, while drying do not use a towel or cloth to dry out the parts, as this can leave lint or fibres behind.

5. Reassemble

Inspect for any missed spots in interior cleaning. You can also add a protective cover that is specifically designed for air coolers and fits your unit properly. Once the parts are completely clean and dry, reassemble the air cooler according to the instructions in the owner’s manual.

Why is cleaning an Air Cooler essential?

Cleaning your air cooler is an important maintenance task that should not be neglected. Cleaning an air cooler makes it more effective. Not only is a sparkly clean air cooler more visually appealing that can improve the overall look and feel of your home but it also ensures healthy and fresh air quality.

Regular cleaning can prevent mould growth and ensure that your air cooler is not spreading harmful substances into your home. It’s important to keep your air cooler clean since it helps improve the air quality of your living space by filtering out allergens and pollutants. Dirt and debris over time can lead to clogged filters on parts that can cause the unit to break down in time which can be avoided by regularly cleaning your air cooler.
